Saint Mary's Glacier is a 3.1 kilometer heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Idaho Springs, Colorado that features a lake and is rated as moderate. 20 reviews. I was worried it would be crowded with all the people walking the trail with us, but there was plenty of room to spread out. The hike to the lake is pretty rocky and can be difficult for some, but when you get to the lake you feel amazing! It is located approximately one half mile west of the park boundary, near the town of St. Mary. Need spikes or poles for the glacier.Go early or go after 5pm if you want peaceful otherwise very crowded and very loud in the afternoon.
I must’ve picked up at least 9 on my way down (and, mind you, it was clear these bags had been there for at least a day or two). You have the cliff divers across the small lake, and you have the gorgeous crystal clear glass like water where you can see fish swimming. I tried to connect to Loch Lomond trail but couldn't get around water that was past ankles and the trail wasn't marked although with Alltrails app, you can find your way. I arrived around 8:20AM on a Friday and the upper Lot #1 was full, but the lower Lot #2 had plenty of space available. He was in surgery for 3 hours and will be unable to walk for many months.
