In winter and early spring, “the Loop” on Newfound Gap Road will be visible just to the left of Mount Mingus. Color is great right now. FYI there are some picnic benches at the parking area in addition to the pit toilet listed in the facilities section.Really easy walk, best views even amongst the harder trails we didVery easy, mostly paved trail to a gorgeous view of the gorge. We hiked it with a 3 year old and 1 year old. If you are looking for good exercise, with some of the steep climbs up what seems like never ending stairs, this hike is for you. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips and is accessible year-round. Everytime I've been, there have been other people, so you often have to wait your turn for good pics. There are a LOT of stairs. Is there a Chimney Tops trail map? Expect a steep trail (without any switchbacks to ease the rapid elevation gain) that culminates in a challenging rock scramble. Easy enough for children to do.Beautiful view! Make sure you have a tight hold on dogs and children because there are some steep drops. so happy to have stumbled upon this trail by accident. The trail descends to a bridge across the Walker Camp Prong of the Little Pigeon River.

Harder than I thought it would be! The view was breathtaking!Easy, short hike on a partially paved and gravel path. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.I was too much of a wimp to climb out to see Half Moon Arch, though I did enjoy the hike out there. Adventure perhaps?

The only reason I didn’t give five stars is because it’s a little boring and a ton of people... which is totally fine. Take note and consider whether the view is worth the very legitimate risk of slipping into the ravine. Exclamation Point: At the staircase leading up to the Chimney, find the beginning of this trail.

You can see Mount LeConte to the east, Mount Mingus to the south, and to the west, a steep wooded side of Sugarland Mountain.Even the upper end of the Chimney Tops trail is worn smooth in places by the numerous hikers willing to make the tough hike to “the chimneys.” But why? Even though it is closed with a gate at the top, I would still recommend it. The Chimney Top hike is part of the northern section of the 24.7 mile North Fork Mountain Trail traverse hike with this area having the greatest density of overlooks. Gazing downstream from the bridge, youll see the confluence of Walker Camp Prong and Road Prong, where the two creeks form the West Prong Little Pigeon River. Old Hemlocks grace its top, and flowering trees and shrubs dot it’s length. Absolutely stunning views and great ridgeline walking. Some trails or park services may be closed this weekend so check with local authorities before heading out.

Newfound Gap Road is the only road which completely traverses the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, linking Cherokee NC to Gatlinburg TN.
The actual chimney tops rocks are closed currently.Another long hike but the view was worth it.
Very high drop offs on both sides of trail. From the Sugarlands Visitor Center, continue 6.7 miles until you reach the parking lot at the Chimney Tops trailhead.
