We walked the Great Marsh trail and found much more activity among the wildlife than expected.Our family made a day trip of this destination to let my 2 and 5 year olds have their first "day at the beach." Who'd have thought July 1 & 2 would be so cold?! Kemil Beach - Traveling to Kemil Beach in Porter takes you on one of the most scenic drives in Porter County. Great resources there for all local activities and Indiana tourism. Wheelchair accessible parking lots with views of Lake Michigan include West Beach, Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk Beach, Porter Beach, Lake View Beach, and Central Avenue Beach.Rip currents are caused by a sudden break in an offshore sandbar that releases water rapidly back into the lake. And, if you need to call the park ranger for anything they are super helpful! Kemil Beach is a great place to go for a hike along the Dune Ridge Trail. My only complaint was that the beach was absolutely packed with people because of the holiday.

LOLThe Dunes Park is one of my favorite places to hike, go to the beach, camp, and swim. There are several places you can park for free & take a hike, swim, or just stroll along the beach. We sought out the Wells Street Beach location because of the parking proximity to the shore: it's right on it. Indiana Dunes National Park: Kemil Beach - Natural, Relaxing, and Freeing! The shower house was a little dirty, but that's almost unavoidable at beach with all of those people. It's best to arrive early or wait until late afternoon when parking spots become available as visitors depart. They are very helpful & informative. There are no lifeguards at this beach. Porter Beach - Sharing its eastern border with the Indiana Dunes State Park , Porter Beach is a favorite with the locals. There are no lifeguards at this beach. We stopped by the visitor center. The kids loved playing in the sand and no fish bothered us while we were swimming. Parking and restrooms are available.
